Priddy Ugly reacts as Elon Musk faces criticism on X
South African rapper Priddy Ugly has weighed in on the backlash against Elon Musk following the businessman’s claims about racism in South Africa.
Musk accused the South African government of rejecting his company, Starlink, due to racial bias.
“Starlink has no right to work in South Africa because I am not black,” he alleged. His statement sparked outrage, with many South Africans calling him out for misinformation.
Priddy Ugly took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on the situation, particularly addressing those using Musk’s own platform to criticize him.
“Seen a lot of Elon Musk slander, posts about how much some people hate him, he must fall, etc. But you’re using X & passive aggressively attacking him with tweets. Okay,” the rapper wrote.
His remarks triggered mixed reactions, with some social media users accusing him of defending the billionaire.
However, Priddy Ugly later clarified his stance, emphasizing the need for Africans to build and support independent digital platforms.
“Exposing Elon’s misinformation is crucial, but debating it only on X, where he controls the platform, plays into his advantage.
To truly counter it, we must amplify the truth beyond X, using independent media, global news, and other platforms he doesn’t control,” he added.
The rapper also highlighted the importance of Africa advancing its own tech industry.
“I don’t like or agree with his statements on SA at all, but what I was trying to bring to light is the fact that we need to develop our own platforms. The sooner we stop endorsing & using the ‘enemy’s’ platform, the closer we are to making it lose its power to promote propaganda against us,” he concluded.
I never said that all.
