DJ Cndo gets real about industry pressure, mental health, and her comeback
DJ Cndo has finally opened up about her quiet exit from the limelight, and it wasn’t due to scandal or a fallout.
The Ngisemathandweni hitmaker, whose real name is Sindisiwe Zungu, revealed that stepping back from the music scene was a conscious decision for her mental wellbeing.
“It is okay to step back when you do not feel like yourself,” she told Sunday World.
“People in the industry struggle with things we don’t talk about. I’m not saying I was depressed, but I understand it better now, one moment you’re out there killing it, and the next, you’re alone with your thoughts.”
Addressing rumours that she left DJ Tira’s label Afrotainment, Cndo cleared the air.
“There were assumptions, but I can confirm I’m still with the label. I’m thankful to DJ Tira for understanding what I was going through.”
Far from idle during her break, Cndo explored entrepreneurship, opening Medusa Hair Salon in Durban.
Although the business didn’t survive the pandemic, she said the experience was valuable.
“Saving from my peak years helped me survive.”
