Sol Phenduka suspended from Kaya 959
Podcaster and radio personality Sol Phenduka has been taken off air at Kaya 959, with the station confirming his suspension on Wednesday, 20 August.
The announcement came shortly after he wrapped up his regular breakfast show, leaving many listeners surprised by the sudden move.
In a brief statement, the station explained: “Kaya 959 confirms that presenter Sol Phenduka has been placed on suspension with immediate effect. This step has been taken pending the outcome of an internal process currently under way.”
The station stressed its commitment to procedure, adding, “Kaya 959 is committed to following due process, and no further details will be shared at this stage. Updates will be provided once the internal process has been concluded and a final decision has been reached.”
Sol joined Kaya 959 in 2022, teaming up with broadcaster Dineo Ranaka to take over the breakfast slot previously held by Thomas Msengana and Skhumba Hlophe.
Their pairing was initially hailed as a bold and refreshing shift for the station.
The suspension comes as a surprise, especially given Sol’s past confidence in balancing his busy career across different media platforms.
Speaking to DRUM magazine in a previous interview, the Podcast and Chill co-host and former Big Brother Mzansi contestant said, “I have been on the radio before and have lots of experience in the medium, and I believe there is still enough freedom for my personality to shine. I’ll be myself.”
Kaya 959 has asked for patience from its staff, listeners, and stakeholders as the process unfolds.
