Fans applaud Helen Zille’s humble lifestyle
Former Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille has earned admiration online after being spotted driving a modest Toyota Yaris.
The 74-year-old politician, who previously held onto her Opel Corsa for more than 25 years, was described by many as a symbol of humility and simplicity in leadership.
One X user shared: “Passed @helenzille on the N2 in traffic yesterday afternoon. Still driving herself in a humble Toyota Yaris. No lavish lifestyle, no entourage. A reminder of true leadership through humility.”
While some argued her choice might be linked to finances, Zille clarified on her own account that she opted for the car mainly because of its affordability.
Her car history reflects the same down-to-earth approach.
Over the years, she has driven vehicles like the classic VW Beetle and, more recently, her family’s bright yellow Bajaj Qute, known for being one of the most economical and fuel-efficient cars on the market.
