Moshe Ndiki claims fraud amid Sars court battle

Television personality and actor Moshe Ndiki says he is the victim of fraud after the South African Revenue Service (Sars) took legal steps to recover an outstanding tax bill from him.

The Life with Moshe Ndiki star, who previously appeared on The Queen and Gomora, confirmed to Sunday World that irregular activity was carried out on his tax profile.

He said the matter has left him under immense stress but insisted he is working with Sars to clear his name.

“Fraud was committed against my tax, and I’m resolving it. This whole thing is stressing me out. I know I did not do anything wrong, and I am working closely with Sars to make sure the matter is resolved and my name is cleared,” he said in a message.

When pressed for more details, Ndiki declined to elaborate further, saying only: “Unfortunately, I can’t elaborate any further.”

Court documents reveal that Ndiki initially owed over R500,000, but the amount increased to about R600,000 after penalties and interest were added.

Sars had issued him a final letter of demand in June, warning that failure to settle or make arrangements would result in legal action, including attaching and selling off his assets.

In its letter, Sars advised that Ndiki could apply to pay in installments or request a suspension of the debt while contesting the bill.

However, the tax authority eventually proceeded with a default judgment application at the Johannesburg High Court.
