Cici threatens legal action over unpaid ‘Hamba Juba’ royalties
The drama surrounding the 2023 hit song Hamba Juba has taken another turn after singer Cici broke her silence.
The track, which has millions of streams on Spotify and countless views on YouTube, has been at the centre of controversy as collaborators continue to claim they were never paid their share.
It all began when producer JL SA, real name Jackson Motla, told his followers that he had not received any royalties from the song.
Soon after, DJ and producer Lady Amar also revealed that she too had not been paid what was owed to her.
With both artists speaking out, attention quickly shifted to Cici, who has now come forward with her own statement.
Taking to Instagram, the singer shared a letter from her legal team confirming that she has also not received any royalties from Hamba Juba, despite signing a split sheet agreement.
The statement reads: “For the avoidance of doubt, it is placed on record that our clients have not, to date, been placed in receipt of their rightful and proportionate royalty and master share entitlements arising from the aforesaid work.”
Her attorneys further warned that legal action would be taken if the matter is not resolved, adding that they are already in communication with SAMRO regarding the issue.
