The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has confirmed it is investigating KwaZulu-Natal media personality Ngizwe Mchunu following a wave of complaints over his controversial remarks about the LGBTQIA+ community.
Mchunu, a former Ukhozi FM presenter, caused an uproar on social media after posting a video in which he reacted to the wedding of Simon Seun Nhlapo and Crosby Jodwana, held on 27 September 2025.
In the clip, he criticised the couple and went on to attack the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole, sparking public backlash.
The SAHRC revealed in a statement shared on Thursday, 2 October, that it had received formal complaints from individuals and civil society groups.
“The Commission confirms that it has received complaints from aggrieved members of the public and civil society organisations regarding these alleged offensive remarks. The Commission is registering the complaints and will assess them in line with the Commission’s Complaints Handling Procedure. The Commission will communicate the outcome of the assessment of the complaints in due course,” the statement read.
Social media users applauded the commission for stepping in, with many calling for firm action to be taken against Mchunu.
The media personality now joins the likes of Nota Baloyi and Gayton McKenzie, who have also been flagged by the SAHRC for inflammatory statements in recent years.
