Robert Mugabe Jr faces court in Harare over alleged drug possession
Robert Mugabe Jr, son of the late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, has made a court appearance in Harare following his arrest for alleged drug possession.
Police reportedly stopped him on Wednesday after his car was seen driving against traffic on a one-way street.
During the stop, officers claim they found two small sachets of cannabis inside a sling bag he was carrying.
Mugabe’s lawyer has confirmed that the charges will be contested, telling the BBC that his client intends to deny the allegations.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Republic Police announced that the arrest is connected to what they described as a wider drug network.
“A syndicate linked to him and others has also been arrested,” the police said in a statement.
Five suspects between the ages of 19 and 28 were taken into custody, with authorities seizing 25 sachets of “Indo hybrid dagga” and six ecstasy pills.
