Babes Wodumo gets emotional as she celebrates 500k streams
Gqom sensation Babes Wodumo has shared an emotional message of gratitude to her supporters, reflecting on her journey through loss, faith, and resilience.
The Durban-born hitmaker recently marked a major milestone as her comeback album Ekhoneni surpassed 500,000 streams, a feat that left her both humbled and grateful.
After taking a long break from music, Babes made her long-awaited return on 3 October 2025 with the release of Ekhoneni, which quickly gained traction among fans.
Taking to Instagram a month later, on 10 November, the Wololo star posted a nostalgic clip of herself dancing with her sister, Nondumiso Simelane, and used the moment to reflect on her personal and musical growth.
In her heartfelt caption, Babes wrote, “Looking back, God indeed never fails. The journey of loss was the most painful part of my life, but I stood still and waited on the Lord’s guidance. I took a leap of faith and came back stronger than before.”
She continued, “I must admit that it was never easy, but God had my back and was always available to wipe my tears. EKHONENI has over 500k streams, the whole album is even more, and it’s not me, it’s you guys, never giving up on me and reminding me it’s now the time.”
The singer also shared a touching story behind the song featured in her video, revealing that it was her late grandmother’s favourite hymn.
“God gave me umthwalo cause he knew kungenzeka. I sang this song with tears rolling down my face; it was my grandmother’s (umaka baba) favourite song before prayer. All glory be to the most high God. Ngenhliziyo yami yonke somandla (With all my heart, God.) I want to say THANK YOU. And to all my fans, I love and appreciate you.”
Babes’ post resonated deeply with her followers, many of whom praised her strength and faith after the tragic loss of her husband, Mampintsha.
