Major League DJz fails to give Mdu aka TRP the promised R845,000

Major League DJz are facing backlash on X after allegedly failing to fulfil their public promise to reward producer Mdu aka TRP with $50,000 (about R845,000) for his contribution to the amapiano sound.

The drama began after DJ Maphorisa publicly praised Mdu for discovering and popularising the iconic log drum, crediting him for transforming the amapiano landscape and changing countless lives in the process.

In response to the praise, Major League DJz tweeted that they would send Mdu $50k in appreciation of his influence.

However, the duo later deleted the tweet.

Users on X started calling them out, claiming the promise was never honoured.

The matter escalated when an account claiming to represent PianoHub, the label Mdu is signed to, released a statement alleging that the producer has not received a cent of the promised money.

“As the management of PianoHub, the label to which Mdu a.k.a. TRP is signed, we hereby confirm that our artist has not received the promised funds,” the statement reads.
