Andile Ncube calls for revival of SAMA as artist turnout remains low

Andile Ncube calls out artists for no-show at SAMA 31
Media personality Andile Ncube has weighed in on the ongoing conversation around the South African Music Awards, questioning the noticeable absence of several artists at the 31st edition of the event.
Taking to X, Ncube openly expressed his disappointment at the turnout, asking whether artists still care about attending the prestigious awards ceremony.
“Seeing the number of absent artists, do you guys not care anymore?” he wrote, recalling a time when receiving a SAMA invitation was considered one of the biggest moments in the local music industry.
Ncube went on to reflect on how the awards once represented the hottest ticket in town, suggesting that the excitement and prestige surrounding the event have faded over the years.
He argued that the ceremony is in need of a fresh revival, particularly when it comes to marketing and promotional efforts.
Despite his criticism, Ncube acknowledged that the awards still have a strong foundation, noting that they are hosted on what he described as “the best platform available.”

I remember a time when a SAMA invite was the hottest ticket in town.
There needs to be a revival of this show, the marketing and promo around it.
The awards already sit on the best platform available#sama31
