Thandiswa Mazwai sweeps four awards at the 31st SAMA ceremony

South African music icon Thandiswa Mazwai had a standout night at the 31st annual South African Music Awards, walking away with four major trophies and earning widespread praise from fans and peers alike.

The awards ceremony took place on Sunday, 14 December 2025, at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg, where the Bongo Muffin member was recognised for her excellence across multiple categories.

Mazwai won Female Artist of the Year, Best African Adult Contemporary Album, Best Produced Album, and Best Engineered Album, cementing her status as one of the country’s most respected musical voices.

Following her big win, Mazwai took to social media to share her excitement and gratitude, acknowledging the collaborators and loved ones who supported the project.

“We brought a broom and cleaned up. Thanks to my co-producers on this album #TendaiShoko @nduduzomakh @OfficialMeshell and to all the musicians from SA, Dakar and USA. Thanks to my family, A and Lala, Maria and Phiona for the support. See you at Sankofa Fest 28Feb2026,” she wrote.

Members of the Bongo Muffin collective also celebrated the milestone online, proudly sharing the number of awards she collected on the night.
