South African pop star Tyla has found herself at the centre of online drama after being accused of endorsing a controversial post aimed at American rap heavyweight Nicki Minaj.
The incident quickly sparked backlash on X, with some users predicting dire consequences for Tyla’s career.
The Water hitmaker was linked to a post that called for Nicki Minaj to step away from the public eye.
The post, shared by a Nicki fan account, criticised the rapper’s recent public behaviour and included a strongly worded message that read:
“Keep that album. Delete social media and hide yourself from the public. Just go away and never come back. You’re done. It’s done. You are too mentally insane to be in the public eye anymore. It was a good run. You accomplished a lot, revived an entire genre, but it’s over now.”
Tyla was accused of supporting the message after it appeared that she had retweeted it.
Although the repost was later removed, the damage was already done, with social media users divided over whether the interaction was intentional or a simple mistake.
The situation gained even more attention due to Tyla’s friendly association with Cardi B, Nicki Minaj’s longtime rival, leading some to believe the move was a subtle dig.
Nicki Minaj has not publicly responded to the situation, but Tyla addressed the backlash in her own way, with humour.
She shared a post suggesting that the repost was unintentional, playfully quoting Nobody’s Perfect from Hannah Montana.
“In trouble on the net again. #everybodymakesmistakes #everybodyhasthosedays #hacked,” she wrote.
The light-hearted response quickly went viral, racking up hundreds of thousands of likes and prompting mixed reactions online.
While critics remained unconvinced, many fans praised Tyla for refusing to be dragged into negativity, applauding her for handling the situation with humour rather than hostility.
