Kelvin Momo misses OR Tambo Homage Concert after flight delays
Amapiano heavyweight Kelvin Momo failed to appear at the high-profile OR Tambo Homage Concert held in Mbizana, Eastern Cape, after a series of flight delays prevented him from reaching the venue on time.
The absence of the headline act left organisers and attendees disappointed at an event meant to honour liberation icon Oliver Tambo and late DJ Volo Da Saint.
Despite being billed as one of the main performers, the DJ was left stranded hundreds of kilometres away as travel complications disrupted his schedule.
The concert ultimately went ahead without him, slightly dampening what was intended to be a night that blended musical celebration with deep historical significance.
This latest no-show has added to growing conversations around reliability, as it follows other missed performances earlier this year.
In May, Kelvin Momo did not perform at Café 69, Piano Hub and Makubenjalo, with those cancellations attributed to unexpected health challenges.
In a statement released by the artist and his management, the team explained that Kelvin Momo missed his initial flight due to unforeseen traffic delays en route to the airport.
A second flight was arranged in an effort to salvage the situation, but further delays made it impossible for him to arrive in Mbizana in time for his set.
“We fully acknowledge the importance and significance of the OR Tambo Homage Concert, and we understand how meaningful this event was to the organisers, partners, and attendees,” read the statement.
“Kelvin and his entire team extend their deepest and most sincere apologies to the event organisers and to everyone who was looking forward to his performance.”
The statement further stressed that the event carried far more weight than a typical booking.
“This situation was deeply disappointing for Kelvin. He holds the legacy being honoured and the people of Bizana in the highest regard. We appreciate the understanding shown and remain committed to making amends where possible.”
