Leaked CCTV captures suspects’ movements before and after DJ Warras shooting

Newly leaked CCTV footage has shed light on the moments surrounding the fatal shooting of popular broadcaster DJ Warras, born Warrick Stock, offering a clearer picture of the suspects’ movements before and after the attack.

The video, which has since circulated publicly, shows two men believed to be involved in the shooting that took place on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, in Marshalltown, Johannesburg.

The footage has also become central to the State’s case in the bail application of Victor Mthethwa Majola, the only suspect currently in custody.

According to a report by EWN on Thursday, 15 January 2026, the CCTV footage captures DJ Warras exiting the Zambesi Building, a hijacked property on Von Wielligh Street, shortly after midday.

He was wearing a black T-shirt and was accompanied by another man dressed in a white T-shirt. Warras had been at the building to assist with the installation of a biometric system in the foyer.

The two men are seen walking out of camera range towards Fox Street. During court testimony, the investigating officer explained that Warras briefly stepped into an Audi Q7 parked nearby, close to informal street vendors.

He reportedly opened the passenger door while speaking on his cellphone, then exited the vehicle, locked it, and headed back towards the building.

Less than a minute later, at around 12:17 pm, chaos erupts in the footage as people are seen ducking and running for cover.

Amid the panic, the alleged gunman appears in the crowd. The suspect is described as wearing a green T-shirt, blue floral shorts, sandals and a cap.

CCTV footage shows that while fleeing the scene, the alleged shooter unexpectedly doubled back and picked up an item from the ground, believed to be the keys to the Audi Q7 Warras had been using.

The keys were never recovered, strengthening investigators’ belief that they were taken during the escape. After retrieving the item, the suspect is seen walking calmly towards Fox Street.

Another camera angle shows a second suspect collecting two bags near the street vendors’ stalls. One of the bags, a dark yellow gift bag, is believed to have been used to conceal the firearm.

The two men then leave the area together, heading in the same direction.

The leaked footage has intensified public interest in the case, particularly as it forms part of the evidence being contested in court.

During proceedings, investigating officer Captain Abe Montwedi outlined the State’s version of events and detailed the alleged role played by Victor Majola in the killing.

Majola’s bail application has faced delays, with the defence arguing over access to video evidence and maintaining that he was not present at the scene, claiming he was in Soweto at the time of the shooting.

As the investigation continues, the emergence of the CCTV footage has become a key development, offering visual insight into the final moments before and after DJ Warras’ death and raising further questions about the planning and execution of the attack.
