Enhle Mbali replies ex-husband DJ Black Coffee

Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa has set social media buzzing after sharing a series of cryptic Instagram posts that many believe are aimed at her ex-husband, DJ Black Coffee, following his recent comments about their marriage.

The actress and fashion entrepreneur posted quotes touching on pain, betrayal and emotional trauma just days after Black Coffee, whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo, publicly disputed claims that the pair were ever in a customary marriage.

His remarks came amid renewed public interest in their divorce after a Constitutional Court ruling declared antenuptial contracts signed after customary marriages to be invalid.

One of Enhle’s Instagram Stories featured a still from HBO’s Euphoria, starring Zendaya, with the caption: “When the person who created your trauma complains about your pain.”

Another post showed a video of a man giving water to a snake that later bites him, accompanied by the words: “Some souls know nothing but betrayal. No matter how much kindness they receive.”

While she did not mention Black Coffee by name, the timing of the posts sparked widespread speculation online.

Black Coffee broke his silence shortly after the Constitutional Court ruling, responding to a video shared by podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa, who argued that the payment of lobola does not automatically amount to a civil union or an in-community-of-property marriage.

In the comments, the DJ firmly stated: “There was no customary marriage.” He added that both he and Enhle “never intended to do a customary marriage” and claimed that “even our prenup stated that we were unmarried.”

The former couple held a traditional Zulu wedding ceremony in 2011 following lobola negotiations with Enhle’s family and later signed an antenuptial contract in 2017 ahead of their white wedding at Sun City.

However, their divorce, finalised last year at the Johannesburg High Court, saw the court rule that the 2017 antenuptial contract was invalid.

As a result, Black Coffee was ordered to pay Enhle more than R60,000 in monthly spousal maintenance until her death or remarriage.

Although Enhle Mbali has not directly addressed Black Coffee’s comments, her recent posts have been widely interpreted as a subtle but pointed response, adding yet another layer to a divorce saga that continues to play out in the public eye.
