Black Coffee Foundation builds homes for flood victims in Mthatha
The Black Coffee Foundation has taken a major step toward long-term recovery in the Eastern Cape by starting construction on permanent homes for families displaced by the devastating floods of 2025.
The first phase of the housing project is currently underway in Mthatha, offering renewed hope to communities that lost almost everything.
According to the foundation, the initiative goes beyond emergency relief and focuses on restoring stability and dignity to affected families.
CEO Lungie Maphumulo said the organisation has always prioritised responding directly to community needs, especially in times of crisis.
“Our goal has always been to meet communities where they are,” Maphumulo said. Reflecting on the foundation’s previous efforts, she added, “Last year, we were honoured to support families with food parcels following the devastating floods in the Eastern Cape. This year, we are continuing that work with a deeper commitment – to rebuild homes, restore dignity, and invest in futures.”
She explained that the housing project forms part of a broader rollout of programmes planned for 2026, aimed at creating sustainable change rather than short-term assistance.
“The housing initiative is one of several programmes we are rolling out in 2026, and we’re proud to stand with partners like TenCo Foundation and ProRoof as we help families rebuild their lives,” she said.
The project has been widely praised as a meaningful response to the long-lasting impact of natural disasters in the region, positioning the Black Coffee Foundation as a key player in helping flood-affected families move forward with stability and hope.
