Joyous Celebration marks 30 years with nationwide tour

Legendary South African gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration is celebrating a major milestone after announcing a nationwide tour to mark three decades of shaping the country’s gospel music scene.

The group’s 30th anniversary will be commemorated through the Joyous 30/30 Nationwide Tour, a year-long celebration designed to reflect on its rich legacy while delivering new musical experiences to gospel fans across South Africa.

The celebrations will begin in Johannesburg with a series of special performances at the Joburg Theatre from 30 April to 2 May 2026.

The opening shows are expected to set the tone for the nationwide tour, bringing together music lovers for what organisers describe as “a powerful celebration of faith, music and community.”

Since its formation in the mid-1990s, Joyous Celebration has grown into one of the most influential gospel platforms on the African continent.

Beyond producing chart-topping gospel music, the ensemble has also played a vital role in discovering and nurturing some of South Africa’s most celebrated gospel voices.

The upcoming Johannesburg shows will highlight that journey while also introducing audiences to three unique experiences designed to honour the past, celebrate the present and spotlight the future of gospel music.

One of the standout events is expected to be “Crowned in Glory”, a glamorous evening that blends worship with fashion and celebration, reflecting the majesty and spirit that has defined the Joyous Celebration brand over the years.

Fans will also be treated to the “Rewind Show”, a nostalgic performance revisiting some of the group’s most beloved songs.

The show will feature former members who helped shape the ensemble’s musical journey and remain part of its enduring legacy.

Another anticipated highlight is the “Friends of Joyous” showcase, which will see the ensemble collaborate with other leading gospel artists for a night of powerful performances centred on faith and unity.

The anniversary celebrations will also continue the group’s commitment to developing new gospel talent.

Through its long-running talent discovery programme, Joyous Celebration plans to introduce emerging voices to audiences, ensuring the next generation of gospel artists has a platform to shine.
