“You are lying”: Commissioner Madlanga grills Sergeant Nkosi over message linked to DJ Sumbody murder

Late DJ Sumbody
Tensions ran high during proceedings into the 2022 killing of DJ Sumbody as Justice Sisi Khampepe Madlanga sharply confronted Sergeant Fannie Nkosi over a questionable WhatsApp message sent shortly after the murder.
Nkosi came under intense scrutiny during cross-examination when he was asked to account for a message he allegedly sent to a former senior official within the City of Tshwane just three days after the fatal shooting.
The message reportedly included a photo of the late DJ alongside the official, accompanied by the caption: “Why did you not call him to order?”
When pressed to explain the meaning and intent behind the message, Nkosi struggled to provide clear answers, raising concerns about the credibility of his testimony.
Frustrated by what appeared to be evasive responses, Commissioner Madlanga did not hold back.
“You are lying,” he told Nkosi bluntly, before warning him against “playing games” with the commission.
Madlanga further instructed the sergeant to use the lunch break to reflect and return with truthful and coherent answers, signaling the seriousness with which the panel is treating the matter.
The exchange marked a dramatic moment in the inquiry, as officials continue to probe circumstances surrounding DJ Sumbody’s murder and any potential links or communications that may shed light on the case.
Nkosi’s testimony is expected to remain under close examination as proceedings continue.
