Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela has shared a deeply personal story, alleging that his father took money meant for him following his mother’s death.

Mphela opened up about the painful experience on X after content creator Lasizwe Dambuza asked followers: “What’s the worst thing your family has done to you?”

In his response, Mphela claimed that his father took funds paid out as benefits after his mother passed away.

He said he chose not to confront him, but instead left his village and moved to Johannesburg to start a new life.

“My father stole the money from the “benefits” paid out after my mom’s death. Didn’t fight him. Left the village, came to Jozi to build a life and vowed to be “somebody”. I dropped his surname from my name and took my mom’s maiden name so that he wouldn’t have any ties to me,” he wrote.

The media personality added that the incident led him to cut ties with his father, including dropping his surname and adopting his late mother’s maiden name.

His revelation quickly gained attention online, with many users expressing sympathy and praising his resilience.

Lasizwe also responded to Mphela’s post with a message of support, writing: “💔😔 sorry man.”
