Nomzamo Mbatha and Bovi announced as AMVCA 2026 hosts

Nomzamo and Bovi to host AMVCA 2028
Nomzamo Mbatha and Bovi Ugboma have been officially unveiled as the co-hosts of the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
The two stars will take to the stage on 9 May 2026 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, stepping into a role long held by IK Osakioduwa, who has fronted the awards since their debut in 2013.
IK’s decade-long run made him the face of the AMVCAs, and his effortless delivery became a defining part of the show.
His appearance alongside teenage prodigy David Oke at the 11th edition had already hinted at a transition, and now organisers have confirmed a new era with Nomzamo and Bovi at the helm.
Bovi, widely respected for his wit and stagecraft, admitted he didn’t see the opportunity coming.
“I wasn’t expecting it. Considering IK has been the host from the beginning, I was really happy when I got the call,” he said, noting that preparations are already in full swing as he aims to deliver a memorable show.
On her part, Nomzamo brings continental and global appeal.
From her breakout on Isibaya to her Hollywood role in Coming 2 America alongside Eddie Murphy, and her recent lead role in Shaka iLembe, she has built a reputation that extends beyond acting into humanitarian work and advocacy.
Speaking on the responsibility of hosting, Bovi added, “The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don’t take that lightly. I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves. African storytelling is at an all-time high, and it’s an honour to be the one holding the mic while we celebrate the best of it.”
This year’s edition also reflects a broader vision, with organisers introducing new categories for Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa).
Veteran actress Joke Silva has been appointed Head Judge.
With 32 categories and voting already open for audience-decided awards, the countdown is on.
All eyes will be on Lagos as Nomzamo and Bovi take over one of Africa’s biggest entertainment stages.
