Actor Siyabonga Shibe robbed after alleged drink-spiking incident at Bryanston restaurant

Siyabonga Shibe robbed by women posing to be fans

Siyabonga Shibe has opened up about a frightening ordeal that turned a simple night out into a costly and unsettling experience after he and a friend were allegedly drugged and robbed at a Bryanston restaurant.

The actor, known for his roles in Uzalo, Scandal! and Rockville, said the incident unfolded after three women, believed to be fans, approached them for photos before later joining their table for drinks.

What started as a friendly interaction soon took a troubling turn.

Shibe briefly stepped away, leaving his drink and bag, which contained his valuables, with the group.

Not long after, both he and his friend began feeling unusually drowsy.

“I left my drinks and bag with them,” he told the Sunday Times.

The two men managed to get to their car but ended up falling asleep. When they eventually woke up, their phones and a laptop worth about R37,000 were gone.

Shibe suspects the drinks may have been tampered with and believes the incident could be linked to a coordinated robbery scheme involving the women or accomplices.

“We should have taken all our things with us… nowadays it seems that’s the way things must be done, because you can’t trust anyone,” he added.

Police have confirmed that a theft case was opened on 20 April, with investigations still ongoing and no arrests made at this stage.

Shibe said he chose to report the matter not only to track his stolen devices but also to alert others to stay vigilant.
