Norma Gigaba’s case postponed, accuses Hawks for illegal arrest

The estranged wife of the former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba’s wife, Norma, has had her case postponed till October.

Norma appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday morning  on charges of malicious damage to property.


Norma who recently announced that she was going back to her maiden name, Mngoma and dropping her husband’s surname, Gigaba was arrested in July.

She was arrested on charges of malicious damage to property and crimen injuria after she allegedly damaged a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG belonging to her husband’s friend.

In an urgent court application, Norma accused Hawks for illegal arrest.

She claimed that her arrest by the Hawks was a planned effort to intimidate, bully, and to gain unlawful access to her devices.

Her legal aid team is challenging the rationality and legality of the warrant used by Hawks to arrest her.

Mngoma also said that before she was arrested, Hawks seized all her gadgets, allegedly deleted messages, images, and data from them for reasons conceeled.

Her case was postponed to 23 October to allow her to challenge her arrest.
