Abdul Sabbir Khan, Durban sound engineer succumbed to death on Tuesday and was buried at the Brooke Street Muslim Cemetery that same night.
He was the founded and directed Azam Khan Sounds Services. He fell ill and succumbed to death while he was being transported to a Chatsworth hospital by his family.
Khan who died at the age of 71, was fondly known as Shabir when he started the music industry in 1986 in Chartsworth. Actually, the company took its name after his eldest son – Azam.
Khan (when he was still alive), provided several stage and sound accessories for a lot of local and international concerts and events.
SD Video Enterprises director – Satish Dhupelia said he had worked with Khan on several local and international productions. He further said it was rare to see someone who shared the same passion for technology like Khan did.
“He did the sound and I did the video and screens. We travelled this country together, working and having fun. I treasure those great memories. We enjoyed a great friendship. Last year I had occasion to visit him a number of times. We spent many hours reminiscing. He had expanded into audiovisual and was very knowledgeable. I loved our technology talks. Many local artists will remember doing recordings in his studios and the care he took doing them,” Dhupelia said.
On Facebook, Nalini Maharaj referred to Khan as a true gentleman and a guru in his field.
“I remember the laughter we shared with him. His memories will be always cherished by all that met him,” Maharaj said.
