The Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team has arrested a 47 year old director of a company for alleged Covid-19 social relief funds fraud.

The arrest comes three weeks after the security body was notified of a suspected covid-19 social relief funds fraud in Mtititi community outside Malamulele.

The name of the suspect was withheld but she is the director of Mtititi Drop in Center Malamulele in Limpopo.

She allegedly claimed R3.2 million Covid-19 social relief funds from the UIF on behalf of her 242 former Malamulele based Extended Public Works Program (EPWP) workers.

This alleged criminal act was carried out between April and August 2020.

Preliminary investigation further reveled that the workers contract was terminated even before the President declared a nationwide lock down.

It also revealed that the money the director claimed never got to the hands of the former workers.

She is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 October 2020 on fraud charges.
