Watch: Trevor cracks up Oscars audience with fake Xhosa translation

on

Trevor Noah had a good time at the Oscars 2019, as he got both the audience and South Africans at home cracked up with his jokes.

The comedian took to the Oscar’s stage to present Black Panther as one of the Best Picture nominees at this year’s award ceremony and before stepping off the stage, he joked about the famous Black Panther phrase, “Wakanda Forever”.

However, he tried sounding inspirational on stage when he gave a wrong translation to a Xhosa phrase which got the language users laughing so hard on Twitter.

Trevor said, ‘abelungu abazi ubu ndiyaxoka’, which means ‘In times like these, we are stronger when we fight together than when we try to fight apart’.”

Actually, he meant this: “White people don’t know I’m lying.”
