Minister Thulas Nxesi hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19

After testing positive for COVID-19 a week ago, the minister of employment and labour, Thulas Nxesi was admitted to the hospital on Monday, 20th of July after following his doctor’s advice.


Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mthembu made it known that Nxesi tested positive for COVID-19 almost a week ago but had been in self isolation in his home until last night.

“His admission to hospital comes on the advice of his medical doctors, in order for him to have access to better medical attention and proper monitoring,” said Mthembu.

Apart from Nxesi, some other ministers have reportedly tested positive for the virus. Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and her husband Charles Nqakula also tested positive. According to the presidency, the pair has since managed to make a full recovery. Minister of Mineral Resources and energy, Samson Gwede Mantashe was also admitted on Monday but his wife is self isolating at home as she also tested positive.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, Gauteng Premier David Makhura and North West Premier Job Mokgoro also tested positive in recent weeks.
