Veteran goalkeeper itumeleng Khune is delighted at the opportunity to lift another league title with the club

What started off as a dream season came to an abrupt halt, but Kaizer Chiefs will be eager to restart their campaign when league action resumes.

Amakhosi are in pole position to clinch their first league title in five years, having raced to 15 wins in their 22 matches played so far.

This places them just four points above defending champions – Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

KHUNE READY FOR RESTART

Itumeleng Khune, a veteran goalkeeper is delighted at the opportunity to lift his fourth league title with the club.

We are happy that we will soon be able to do what we all love again – playing football,” he told the Kaizer Chiefs official website.

KAIZER CHIEFS KEEN TO DELIVER

Since becoming Kaizer Chiefs’ first-choice option between the sticks, Khune finds himself in unfamiliar territory, playing back up to Nigerian shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi.

The 33-year old has managed just two league appearances since recovering from a shoulder injury, which kept him out of action for the second half of the 2018/19 campaign.

Khune said he and his fellow goalkeeper have been sharing ideas ahead of the league restart.

“Luckily, we have had a bit more time to prepare before the league restarts. We have also discussed various aspects on our ‘Keeper Corner’, which is us goalies communicating with our goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter. It’s basically about learning from the past to go forward. Going back into the field will all be about mental strength… We just need to be ready come 11 August.”

He also issued out a message to the supporters, who will not be at the stands when the league restarts.

You are the driving force behind this team and we will miss you cheering us up when the league restarts. However, we still want to make you proud and you will be that pillar of strength for us. We are at present in the number one spot and we don’t want to disappoint you when we go past the finish line.”
