Mama Joy bags World Cup deal after McKenzie fallout

Mama Joy going for World Cup 2026

Mama Joy Chauke has turned what began as a deeply personal act of faith into a headline-making journey that’s now taken her all the way to the global stage.

The beloved super fan recently opened up about her spiritual commitment, revealing that she has been fasting daily while encouraging others to join her in prayer.

“I am fasting every day. I believe God will make a way,” she said in a clip that quickly gained traction online.

As her message spread, Mama Joy found herself back in the spotlight for her visible support for Danny Jordaan, president of the South African Football Association, during his court appearance.

Her presence sparked mixed reactions, with some applauding her unwavering loyalty to local football, while others questioned the timing and optics.

The attention intensified when she clashed with Gayton McKenzie, the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture. After expressing frustration about the lack of financial support for fans hoping to attend international tournaments, McKenzie suggested that her husband should cover the costs.

But in a twist few saw coming, Mama Joy’s fortunes shifted dramatically.

She has now secured her trip to the upcoming FIFA World Cup through a private partnership, after being unveiled as a brand ambassador for sportswear label abOVEnormal.

The deal will see her travel across the United States, Mexico and Canada when the tournament kicks off.

Standing alongside brand founder Masingita Masunga and former minister Lindiwe Zulu, Mama Joy embraced her new role; no longer just a passionate supporter, but now a recognised face of a growing brand.

“I am going to the World Cup. I am excited and over the moon,” she said.

“It is further proof that you cannot keep a good person down. When God says yes, no one can say no.”
