Durban comedian – Andrew Hughes is recovering in hospital after he was shot on Thursday in Wentworth

The comedian is the latest victim in a series of shootings in Wentworth.

It is believed he was traveling in a vehicle in the area until when the vehicle was shot at.

The latest shooting incident has sparked fear among the community.

A local community activist said:

The community is angry, the community is being held hostage and innocent people are getting killed during this drug turf war.

The Wentworth police station is not doing enough.”

In relation to this incident, fellow comedian Carvin Goldstone, who has described Hughes as a peacemaker has said he is disturbed by the news.

Goldstone said:

If you ever have to interact with Andrew you will know he is harmless, super friendly, very accommodating, and thoughtful. So it was a huge shock and disappointment that he was in this type of situation.”

He further said:

We wish him a speedy recovery because he has fans all over the world.

They are waiting for him to come back to tell his story because we know his ability to make humor out of pain is a unique quality.”

Community members are calling on Police Minister, Bheki Cele to intervene and investigate in the situation, which is an attempted murder case.
