Over 102 cows from a research facility belonging to the Agricultural Department in Limpopo have gone missing.
The regional ministry suspects that some of their own officials are responsible for this corrupt scandal.
The value of the stolen livestock is estimated to be at roughly R3 million, equating to an average cost of R30,000 per cow.
It’s believed that the theft began during the lockdown and continued for over four months. The security measures is also assumed to have been breached.
This ridiculous scheme comes during the time when corruption amongst government officials is prevalent in the country.
Both provincial and national departments have been implicated in several tender scams related to COVID-19. However, this latest case of cow looting is a new one.
The Limpopo Agriculture Dept. says it cannot rule out the possibility of an inside job in the theft of 102 government cattle estimated at over R3 million. The livestock has been stolen from the Department’s Mara Research centre, outside since the start of the lockdown #SABCNEWS
