Soweto has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in Gauteng.

Premier David Makhura said resources will be directed to the area to ensure regulations are followed.

“There is a slowdown with regards to the surge and I want to continue to say that observing that is comforting, but we cannot send out a message that we are out of the woods,” he said.

Makhura was briefing the media on Friday.

South Africa has recorded a total of 538,184 active cases.

The majority of the new cases are from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
