on

The Western Cape is ready for all businesses to open and it wants government to consider the ban on alcohol sales.

Premier Alan Winde said while the province has passed the COVID-29 peak, unemployment, hunger and poverty are really gaining momentum.

We have sufficient beds in our system to deal with COVID-19 and with that in mind, we also know then that our hospital system sitting at 69 percent capacity gives us the opportunity to now push for the opening of the economy,” he said.

He said their main aim now, as a provincial government, is to save jobs.

We understand that alcohol-related harms do put pressure on our hospital system we also confident that we have sufficient capacity, number 1, and number 2, we have in the past we have already put systems in place and add to those mechanisms to already deal with alcohol harms and trauma-related harms.”
