Eskom has expressed its concern about the emanating trend of illegal connections that has put enormous pressure on existing infrastructure.
Gauteng police got involved in searching for the pressurised infrastructure and found 24 stolen pole mounted transformers that belong to Eskom.
They found infrastructure in several areas across Gauteng province, including Zandspruit area which has been reported of criminal activities in relation to overloaded stations.
Reneiloe Semenya, the utility’s spokesperson in Gauteng said:
“It is not sustainable practice to remove the illegal connections without dealing adequately with the root causes. However, it is necessary to do so because these illegal activities compromise the quality of supply to our paying customers.”
