KZN man arrested after killing one over booze fight

Fight over booze has led to the death of one, hospitalization of one and arrest of another in KwaZulu-Natal.

Tongaat police on Saturday arrested a 23-year-old man after they received information about a body found at an informal settlement in La Mercy after the incident.


Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said “it is alleged that three men had an argument over alcohol and two males aged 32 and 36 were stabbed.”

“A 32-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene and a 36-year-old was taken to hospital for medical attention”.

Police launched a manhunt in the area for the suspect, he was later found hiding in a sugarcane field.

The suspect appeared to have been injured after residents assaulted him when he tried to flee from the scene.

He was arrested and charged for murder and attempted murder.

“He was taken to hospital for medical attention. He will appear at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court as soon as he is released from hospital,” said Mbele.
