A man from Carolina has been sentenced to double life in prison by the Carolina regional court for raping his two daughters after a teacher revealed the evil deeds.
His wife also got sentenced alongside him for concealing the criminal act. She got five years to spend in prison.
Mpumalanga police was pleased with the court’s judgement.
The criminal act was uncovered in August 2017.
Police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi said it was one of the daughter’s teacher that alerted the police.
“During the time when this was happening, the children’s mother chose to remain mum while her children endured this barbaric act of violation”.
“The victims were subjected to severe trauma for quite a long period until one of the children’s teachers became concerned after noticing a sharp drop in her school performance,” said Hlathi.
“When asked, the girl related her story to the teacher and also pointed out that her sister, too, had suffered a similar experience.”
The court found the 44-year-old father guilty on two counts of rape and the mother for concealing the rapes.
Hlathi said magistrate Ricardo Cloete reminded the accused of the duties of a responsible father.
He told him that a father ought to protect his children but he decided to cause the very same harm he was to protect his children from.
The mother also got her own share of the reminder.
Cloete told her that she ought to have protected her children by reporting the matter to the police but she decided to keep mute which was also a crime.
