From midday, Eskom will begin implementation of Stage 2 load-shedding until 10 pm.
The power utility gave an explanation of how different generating units broke down, which resulted to necessitating the power cuts.
At seven different facilities, ten generation units broke down.
However, Eskom gave a warning that any further worsening of the station might result to escalation of load-shedding at short notice.
“As the aged generation infrastructure is unreliable and volatile, this constrained power system is expected to persist for the rest of the week,” Eskom’s statement read.
Eskom is also beckoning all South Africans to make use of electricity sparingly.
