SAPS member accused of raping his brother’s girlfriend plans to seek bail.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) disclosed earlier that a constable and a man allegedly raped a woman who went to sleep in her boyfriend’s room during a party in Delft, Cape Town on Saturday.
The victim said she went to sleep after taking alcohol and she woke up to find the policeman on top of her and raping her.
She said when she pushed him and tried getting her phone to report the attack, another man who is allegedly her boyfriend’s friend stopped her and raped her.
She tried screaming for help but no one could hear because of the ongoing party.
The officer and the other man were arrested on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Before their arrest, they were beaten by angry mob.
The effect of the beating restricted the officer from appearing in court earlier.
The pair will appear in Bellville Magistrate’s Court on 8 September to apply for bail.
Ipid is still investigating the matter.
However, Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said the police officer have not been suspended but internal disciplinary processes are under way.
