KZN education department says bullied pupil is ‘recovering very well’

Remember the KwaZulu-Natal female pupil that was bullied by another female pupil in viral video?

Report from the provincial education department says she is recovering from the incident.


The female pupil was publicly assaulted by a fellow student in a video which went viral this week.

The provincial education department on Friday said in a statement that the Zululand-based Amathole High School pupil has resumed to school after video footage of her being bullied by two other female pupils went viral on Monday.

“Claims that the learner has since passed on is incorrect.”

“The department delegation from head office and the district office visited the girl learner at her home on Wednesday and spoke to her in person.”

The department said it followed up on the student and the principal also confirmed that she is back in school.

Social media users condemned the video that went viral on Monday.

In the video, a female pupil being assaulted by another female pupil.

The alleged bully was seen repeatedly kicking and punching the other pupil, forcing her to the ground, exposing her backside and ripping off her underwear while other pupils watch.

The video doesn’t seem to be taken in the school premises.

The department suspended the two pupils involved in the bullying incident.
