8 deal breakers you shouldn’t tolerate in your relationship

A deal breaker is a factor to consider when deciding whether to follow through with something or not. It’s that little something that makes you say “I’m done!” even when you really love someone or you’ve been together forever.

It may sound harsh — after all, no relationship is perfect, right? — but having a list of relationship deal breakers is actually a healthy way to protect yourself from toxic situations.

Don’t get caught up in controlling, hurtful, and potentially dangerous relationships. Here are 8 relationship deal breakers that you should seriously consider when deciding whether your sweetheart is actually worth your time:

1. Abuse in any way, shape, or form

You should never really be putting up with abuse in your relationship. And take note that abuse can take its shape in various forms. Abuse doesn’t always have to be physical. Sometimes, abuse can also be emotional and mental. And when you notice that your guy is acting abusive towards you in any way, then get out quickly. Seek help from other people if you must.

2. Differences on family planning and direction

If your sole purpose of getting into a relationship with someone is to start a family, then you have to make sure that you are both on the same page when it comes to your family planning.

3. Religious differences and intolerance

This might not be such a big deal to some couples. There are a few couples out there that are able to make their relationships work despite having differences in faith and religion. However, there are a lot of women out there who consider it a deal breaker to be with a guy who has a different faith as them. Some girls take their faith really seriously; and they find it impossible to be with anyone who believes any differently.

4. Any degree of dishonesty

Honesty is something that you always want to be upholding in your relationship. If you are in love with someone who is constantly lying and deceiving you, then it can be very hard to make things work between the two of you. You don’t want to be spending the rest of your life with someone who is continuously making a fool out of you. You want to be with someone who respects you enough to always give you the truth.

5. A relationship that is anything less than equal

A real relationship is one where both partners are on equal footing. When there is inequality, there is imbalance. And that is always bad for any kind of relationship.

6. Manipulative behavior

When you are with a manipulative partner, then you are always putting yourself at risk of engaging in self-sabotage. You might be put into positions of having to do things that you don’t want to do; things that may prove to be potentially harmful to your life as a whole. And that’s why it’s important for you to always make sure that you aren’t with someone who is so willing to engage in manipulative behavior with you.

7. Coercion for you to give up on your goals and dreams

You should never have to give up your goals and dreams for the sake of your relationship. Yes, you can make a few adjustments here and there. You should always show a willingness to compromise. But ultimately, you should still be able to pursue everything that you want to pursue in this life even if you’re in a loving relationship with someone.

8. An unwillingness to compromise in the relationship

You should always want to be with a guy who shows a willingness to compromise. You want a man who is open-minded enough to adjust to your personal needs and expectations. You want a man who is always willing to meet you halfway; someone who is willing to put the needs of the relationship as a whole above his own.
