On Saturday night in Ekurhuleni, the final Operation Okae Molao raid under lockdonw level two occurred.
Police Minister Bheki Cele said officers seized more than 30 illegal firearms.
“The operation is to try and reduce crime here at Ekurhuleni, it is a place that is giving us a lot of crime,” Cele said.
The minister said the areas identified as crime hotspots in Ekurhuleni include the following:
- Thokoza,
- Tembisa, and
- Katlehong.
However, Cele is beckoning on South Africans to keep up with the compliance of lockdown regulations, as the country plans to move to alert level one from midnight.
“This operation is in every district to make sure that nobody finds a way to bypass the roadblocks,” the minister said.
“We just want the compliance, we are hoping that people will comply.”
