Emergency services have been struggling to quench a fire that broke out at the Jika Joe informal settlement in Pietermarizburg on Wednesday.
The cause of the outbreak still remains unknown, however Msunduzi municipality mentioned in a statement that the fire break out will have an effect on power supply to neighbouring areas, since it was burning in the surroundings of an electricity tower.

“Our thoughts are with the victims during this terrible ordeal and we are responding with all available resources.’
“Our disaster management teams will work tirelessly to help the affected resident with humanitarian assistance,” said Msunduzi mayor Mzi Thebolla.
Last year December, about 164 people were left homeless due to a fire outbreak that burnt across the settlement.
