A man who was heavily intoxicated, shot randomly at people opposite a block of flats in the Johannesburg CBD, was expected to come before a court on Monday.
“The suspect was holding a beer bottle in his hand when he started to shoot at random,” said police spokesperson Capt Xoli Mbele.
The incident took place on Friday night.
Following the incident, four people got injured. Three men suffered gunshot wounds to their lower torso while a woman suffered gunshot wounds in the upper and lower torso.
Two of the victims are familiar with the drunk shooter but Mbele said they had no reasons why he rained gunshots at them.
“The victims were taken to hospital where two were treated and discharged on the same day. The other two — a woman and man — remain in hospital,” Mbele said.
The gunman who is aged 40-years old got apprehended on the corner of Bree and Quartz streets. Mbele claimed the man was so drunk when he was arrested.
“The firearm used in the commission of a crime and live ammunition were recovered. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes,” said Mbele.
