Two shot in shoot-out following a foiled CIT heist in Joburg

A foiled cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Johannesburg south left two people with gunshot wounds and two others arrested.

According to Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla, undercover officers were patrolling on Orpen Road near The Glen Shopping Centre when they four suspects were seen trying to rob a Fidelity cash van on Tuesday.


The officers immediately came to the aid of the Fidelity security personnel and a shoot-out ensued.

Fihla indicated that during the shoot-out, a suspect was shot in the leg and a security officer was wounded.

The officers apprehended two of the suspects and recovered one firearm on the scene.

However, he made it known that two other suspects managed to flee from the scene.

“One of the suspects was wearing a security uniform. A firearm taken from one of the security personnel was not recovered.”

He said the suspects getaway vehicle, a silver Audi was abandoned by the suspects.
