The High Court in Johannesburg has found a Hillbrow father guilty of murdering his son and the mother as an accessory.

The couple’s names are withheld to protect the identity of their surviving child, who was a victim of abuse.

Judge Ratha Mokgoatleng found that the children were being assaulted by their father at their Hillbrow flat for some time and the mother failed to report the abuse.

He attacked his children in 2018 when the mother was not present but the court found her to be complicit.

The children aged five and eight suffered severe abuse at the hands of their father for more than two months.

The surviving child testified in court that some times, they were beaten hard with sticks and fists.

The judge blamed the mother for not protecting her children despite not being a part of the abuse.

He found the father guilty of murder, attempted murder of the girl as well as child abuse.

The mother was found guilty of being an accessory.

The matter would return to court on October29  for sentencing.
