Whether you’re an affectionate person or not, we’re all craving a little affection in these challenging times.
Additionally, it’s important now more than ever to show affection to the ones you love. However, since hugging, shaking hands and other forms of physical touch are a no-no, we have to rely on other ways to create connections.
Here are some things you can do to show affection without physical touch:
1. Give compliments
Words can be just as intimate as physical touch. If you can’t hug them, tell them how good they look instead. This shows your appreciation for them which can make someone feel loved. Try to notice the small details as this makes a big difference when you compliment them.
2. Have emotional conversations
This is a great time to have emotional conversations with loved ones since most of us have a lot of time on our hands. Be open-minded and share the things you’ve always wanted to tell them whether good or bad. Such honest conversations usually strengthen intimacy and affection.
3. Cook for them
You don’t have to prepare a Gordon Ramsay type of meal. If you’re not gifted in the kitchen, search for easy recipes online or prepare something that doesn’t need cooking such a fruit platter. The simple effort of preparing something to eat is a good way to show affection.
4. Make eye contact
Since the eyes are the windows to the soul, what’s a better way to show your loved ones’ affection than to let them see it through your eyes? Additionally, making eye contact lets them know that you’re paying attention to them.
5. Exchange personal items
It might seem like a small gesture but giving someone you love one of your possessions goes a long way in showing them that you love them. It could be something you wear often like a ring or necklace or a clothing item that will remind them of you.
6. Help with chores
Everybody needs a helping hand every now and then. Helping around the house is a great way to show your loved ones’ affection. If you want to go the extra mile, try and do their least favourite chores. For instance, if they don’t like cleaning the dishes, help them with that.
7. Give a special present
Sometimes, the best gifts aren’t the most expensive but the ones that mean something. Giving gifts has always been a great way to show affection. Make it more special by giving your loved ones something they’ve always wanted or hold sentimental value to them.
8. Go for a walk/jog
There’s something about doing physical activities with a loved one that brings you closer together. Walks are not only essential to refresh the mind but also provide an opportunity to bond. Additionally, it’s a good alternative for dates if you don’t want to go to a restaurant or want something different.
