An economist has high hopes that South Africa can crawl out from recession and the COVID-19 crisis to become a better country.

On Thursday afternoon, the president will list out economic recovery plan of the government in Parliament.

The president is facing much pressure.

Economist Miyelani Mkhabela is urging South Africans to offer help.

He said increase in funding for basic and higher education should be the president’s top priorities.

He added that small businesses are also to be offered more help:

I think it’s one thing we need for any economy that says, when the citizens are happy in the economy, it is very easy to restore the economy to improve your economic growth. If the citizens are not happy, then it will be very difficult to do that.”
