General-Secretary of the South African Federation of Trade Unions, Zwelinzima Vavi was of the opinion that there was nothing new in President Ramaphosa’s economy recovery plan’s speech.

Over R1-trillion has been allocated to infrastructure investment and 800,000 jobs were indicated in the government’s economic recovery plan which President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled on Thursday.

Vavi said the Government had failed South Africans in response to the recovery plan Ramaphosa presented.

“In our view, the President has once again failed us because he is saying absolutely nothing new”, Vavi said.

Most part of the plan focuses on job creation, infrastructure, energy and driving industrial growth.

The president also announced that the Covid-19 social relief grant has been extended by three more months.

This economy recovery plan is the end product of extensive deliberation between the government and its social partners, which includes business and labour.
