A police officer who was arrested after he was caught on camera assaulting a man appeared in court.
The officer was seen on a CCTV footage violently assaulting Pick n Pay manager.
He appeared in the Boksburg magistrate’s court on Friday.
Constable Michael Sei is facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault under threat and handling of a firearm while under the influence.
The case against him was postponed for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile, the State Prosecutor made it known to the magistrate that it will oppose bail as the owner of the store have been threatened severally.
His lawyer appealed that Sei be remanded in custody at a location where he would be safe.
Sei is a member of the anti-gang unit and may be kept with criminals that he is responsible for putting in prison.
Court postponed the matter to 22 October for a formal bail application.
