An Eastern Cape mother has been apprehended in Gauteng for allegedly exchanging her baby to a woman for money.

The woman who bought the baby has also been apprehended and the two women are expected to come before the court on Monday.

Earlier this month, the 21-year-old woman delivered a baby girl.

It was reported that last week, the mother met up with her co-accused to carry out the sale of the infant.

Hawks officials mentioned that when the father of the baby asked after their child, his girlfriend lied that she had died.

However, she later confessed that she handed the newborn baby girl to a woman in Johannesburg in exchange for money.

The baby has now been reunited with her father.
